One Step at a Time – Jordin Sparks

We made it! The chorus of this song: “We live and we learn to take one step at a time, there’s no need to rush. It’s like learning to fly, or falling in love. It’s gonna happen when it’s supposed to happen and we find the reasons why, one step at a time” was our theme song for our trek through South America! All said in done on the trek alone, we climbed 4 mountains in 5 days, walked over 80 kilometers, and had the most incredible time of our lives. It’s hard to describe how amazing it was to be in the mountains, up before 5am each day and pushing ourselves harder and farther than we ever thought possible. Physically, this was definitely the most challenging thing I have ever put my body through, but I’m proud to say that my knees held up after the months and months of physical therapy and exercises I did to prepare them for a backpacking trip through the Andes! We had such an amazing time though on the trek, that it was hard to think about the “big event” of making it to Machu Picchu on the 5th day. Basically… seeing the Lost City of the Incas was amazing, and I totally understand now why it meets the criteria to be one of the 7 new wonders of the world! So…after countless memories made, thousands of pictures taken, and enough beauty in nature to sustain me for the next few weeks until my next trip, I’m happy to say that we made it back home to the U.S. At some point, everyone needs to save up and travel to South America to see this beautiful country! So here are a few pictures from our trip!

We made it to the top of the Salkantay Mountain!DSCN0634Proof that I climbed to 15,253 feet above sea level! What an incredible sense of accomplishment!DSCN0662
One small item on my bucket list…to dance on top of a mountain. Not only did I get to dance, but Mike even dipped me up by the glacier and lake! Crazy!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Hiking through the cloud forest. (You can see the ruins down in the distance!)DSCN0929Overall, we had a really wonderful trip, and I especially loved spending time with this amazing friend! Can’t wait to make plans for another big trip next year! Asia anyone!?

One Step at a Time – Jordin Sparks
Hurry up and wait
So close, but so far away
Everything that you’ve always dreamed of
Close enough for you to taste
But you just can’t touch.

You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you’re gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you’re feeling more and more frustrated
And you’re getting all kind of impatient waiting.

Chorus:
We live and we learn to take
One step at a time
There’s no need to rush
It’s like learning to fly
Or falling in love
It’s gonna happen when it’s
Supposed to happen and we
Find the reasons why
One step at a time.

You believe and you doubt
You’re confused, you got it all figured out
Everything that you always wished for
Could be yours, should be yours, would be yours
If they only knew.

You wanna show the world, but no one knows your name yet
Wonder when and where and how you’re gonna make it
You know you can if you get the chance
In your face as the door keeps slamming
Now you’re feeling more and more frustrated
And you’re getting all kind of impatient waiting. Chorus

When you can’t wait any longer
But there’s no end in sight
When you need to find the strength
It’s your faith that makes you stronger
The only way you get there
Is one step at a time. Chorus x2

Also, I have to include that we couldn’t have survived the trek without our WONDERFUL guide Saul.  For ANYBODY thinking about traveling to Peru, you MUST check out his website:  www.samtravelperu.com.  Our trek was unlike any of the other companies – so unique, so fun, and definitely “off the beaten track!”  Highly recommended!
