Love is War – American Young

I love the honesty in this song.  “Young lovers in a picture frame, ever notice how there ain’t no rain.  Nobody hangs hard times on the wall.”  It’s easy sometimes in this Facebook world we live in to think that everyone around us has their life all put together, and somehow leads a “more perfect” life than we do.  But in reality…everybody’s either coming out of a crisis, currently in a crisis, or heading for one.  No one is exempt from that, although it’s not something we talk about a lot.  Last week was really stressful for me.  Getting stuck in Detroit with no flights home, coming home to my air conditioner broken, spending the busy weekend celebrating with girlfriends for a Bachelorette party, trying to get my life at work back on track before interns come this next week…it feels like a lot to handle sometimes.  What gets us through is our faith, having incredible friends and family to support us, music, reading, and time to relax and unwind.  I’m so thankful for these blessings in my life…

Love is War – American Young
Young lovers in a picture frame
Ever notice how there ain’t no rain
Nobody hangs hard times on the wall
You won’t see it in an 8 by 10
But there’s a storm every now and then
A slamming door down the hall.

Chorus:
Sometimes love is a white flag
Sometimes love is standing tall
Sometimes love is a feather
Sometimes a cannon ball
But it’s worth fighting for (it’s worth fighting for)
Baby, sometimes love is war.

An old couple on a front porch swing
On a walk down memory lane
Been through the fire and back again
Through the clear and the cloudy skies
Still love in each other’s eyes
Sometimes love is war but sometimes you win.  Chorus

Sometimes love is all that can save us
Sometimes love can kill a man
Yeah sometimes love is a soft touch
Or a pistol in your hand.  Chorus

Sometimes love is a white flag
Sometimes love is standing tall
Sometimes love is a feather
Sometimes a cannon ball
But it’s worth fighting for (it’s worth fighting for)
Baby, sometimes love is
Baby, sometimes love is war.

Roller Coaster – Luke Bryan

“And we spent that week wide open, upside down beside the ocean.”

Great weekend at Cedar Point with great friends.

Roller Coaster – Luke Bryan
She had a cross around her neck
And a flower in her hand
That I picked from the side of Thomas Drive
On our way to the sand.
We found an old wooden chair
Still warm from the sun
Pushed it back, gave me a kiss
With Bacardi on her lips
And I was done.

Chorus:
And we spent that week wide open
Upside down beside the ocean
I didn’t know where it was goin’
Just tryin’ to keep my heart on the tracks
I should’ve known that kind of feelin’
Would last longer than that week did
Blown away and barely breathin’
Sunday came and it was over
Now she’s got me twisted
Like an old beach roller coaster.

The rest of those days
Turned into long crazy nights
When the music got loud
We’d sneak away from the crowd
Under the boardwalk lights
And with all the things we said
What I just can’t get past
Is the way we let it end
Now I’m wonderin’ where she is
Knowin’ I can’t get that goodbye back.  Chorus

She’s like a song playin’ over and over
In my mind, where I still hold her
I had the chance and I should’ve told her.  Chorus

Like that old beach roller coaster.

Anchor Me – The Tenors

“Hold me still and hold me close, until it all passes away.  I beg you not to let go.
All I really have to know is that you are here, and I am not alone.”

This song was a song I listened to a lot during my last week at sea while I was on a Caribbean cruise with my family.  The lyrics “When sadness crashes like an ocean, when fear is deeper than the sea.  When I am swallowed by the darkness, will you come and anchor me” seemed to stand out so much.  Last week I had a lot of time to reflect on my life and what the future may hold for me.  I have such amazing and supportive people in my life, which I am so very grateful for.  I can’t wait to see what life has for me next…

Anchor Me – The Tenors
Oh, my soul is troubled
Oh, my will is worn
Tired and discouraged
Trampled on and torn.

Every breath a battle
Every step a war
My heart, a broken vessel
This night, an angry storm.

Chorus:
When sadness crashes like an ocean
When fear is deeper than the sea
When I am swallowed by the darkness
Will you come and anchor me?

I cannot see through this
Can you be my eyes?
I’m completely hopeless
Can you shine a light?

I have no more strength left
Can you stand and fight
I’m dying in this doubt
Can you be my faith tonight?  Chorus

Hold me still and hold me close
Until it all passes away
I beg you not to let go
All I really have to know
Is that you are here
And I am not alone.  Chorus
